Sauer WTM.24

History:

Shortly after the presentation of the model 1919 the company Sauer decided to produce as smaller and lighter type of a Vestpocket-Pistol. This simplyfied .25 -series was started around 1923/24 by the "W.T.M." (WestenTaschenModell = VestPocketModel). In the manual-title it was named as "Selbstladepistole Kaliber 6.35 mm, kleinen Modells" (Selfcocking Pistol Calibre .25 Of Small Model).
The pistol was produced and sold sametimes like the model 1919 in an amount of about 10.000 pcs. Afterwards it was no longer possible to sell this model against the concurrent small Walther modell 9 and the production changed over to a smaller type of own design.
It is typical to recognize this pistol by additional ribs at the front end of the slide.
The reason for the slightly longer barrel shown in this picture is unknown. Either the pistol originally had a longer barrel, which was cut later, as it was usual for some deliveries to Austria due to the Austrian law, or it was forseen to carry a silencer (unlikely).
