Mauser WTP

History:

After the end of world war 1 the company Mauser thought to have good chances to take part in the rapidly growing market of pocket-pistols. In 1918 they got a patent on a small vestpocket-pistol which they started to produce and which was put on the market in 1921 as "WTP" (WestenTaschenPistole = VestPocketPistol).
This pistol later on also was called WTP 1 to tell it from an even smaller pistol, which was following sometimes later.
At this time the WTP was the smallest of the Mauser-pistols and - as typical for Mauser - it was an own and selfstanding contruction compared to the many FN/Browning-copies overwhelming the market.
The pistol was of high quality and - following old catalogues - costed 36.- "Reichsmark " in 1926.
The production went on until 1938, when it was replaced by the new model WTP 2. About 50.000 pcs. have been produced.
